# CLAI > CLAI is a free, open-source (MIT) desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux that lets you control teams of AI agents. It is local-first and sandboxed: each workspace has a main agent plus optional helper agents, each with its own model provider, files, tools, and permissions, working in parallel, on a schedule, and reporting to you from one Fleet cockpit. CLAI organizes work into workspaces. A workspace is an ongoing conversation with a main agent that owns the workspace's provider, MCP tools, skills, and permissions. The main agent can delegate to helper agents, persist memories and artifacts, and run on a schedule. The Fleet view supervises every workspace and flags anything that needs attention. Agents can use API providers (OpenAI-compatible or Anthropic-compatible, including local endpoints such as Ollama, LM Studio, vLLM, and llama.cpp) or locally installed CLI agents (Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, OpenCode). Shell commands run in a per-agent sandbox with filesystem grants and three modes: Off, Restricted, and Full.
